The April issue of Which? magazine put a total of 26 tyres (sizes 165/70 R14T and 205/55 R16V) to the test and ranked each according to its performance in the areas of dry and wet braking and handling, wet grip on straights and bends, noise, fuel consumption and wear. Continental, which received a “best buy” recommendation for its ContiEcoContact 5 in the 14-inch category and ContiPremiumContact 5 in the larger fitment, reports its satisfaction in being the only tyre maker to receive this distinction for both sizes.

“This is another great endorsement for Continental,” said Jonathan Hayter, product manager for the tyre maker. “Both theContiPremiumContact 5 and ContiEcoContact 5 deliver outstanding performance and give motorists greater safety when it is most needed. The ContiEcoContact 5 delivers reduced CO2 emissions and 20 per cent better rolling resistance than its predecessor, thanks to the functionalised polymer chains. While our newly launched ContiPremiumContact 5 builds on the success of its predecessor, delivering exceptional all round braking performance.”

“Continental has been very successful with its two new tyres, topping the table in both our test sizes,” noted the Which? report. The ContiEcoContact 5, which received an overall score of 72 per cent, was describes as a “class-leading tyre” and came out top in the magazine’s wear and fuel consumption tests. As for the ContiPremiumContact 5, which will be widely available in the UK as of May, it received an overall rating of 70 per cent and prompted the Which? test team to comment that “this Continental offers fantastic dry grip and handling and very good wet braking.”
