1221 Forged Wheels

1221 Wheels utilizes APP proprietary chemistry, 60 series alloy, in the production of its road-wheels. This alloy is exclusive to APP and is approximately 20% stronger than the traditional 6061-T6 aluminum. The additional strength of the material allows 1221 Wheels to create lighter designs, using less material than traditional construction, while adding superior performance characteristics.

RUNOUT TOLERANCE

WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE

A defining characteristic of any world-class wheel is low runout, or in layman’s terms how much “wobble” it produces while spinning. Runout is counteracted by wheel weights used to balance out high and low points of a wheel.  The end result is a balanced wheel that produces no vibrations or shaking at speed.  However, this is easier said than done as getting a perfect circle, contrary to popular belief, is extremely hard to achieve.  Most companies in the aftermarket wheel industry will allow a tolerance of up to .035”.  At 1221 Wheels we strive to go far beyond our competitors runouts and our values, both radial and lateral, have a max value of .030” to pass our quality control process.  While .030” is our max tolerance accepted, our actual typical runout value is much lower thanks to a proprietary machine developed in house at 1221 Wheels.  Runout values on a 3-piece wheel can reach as low as .006”-.008”, while monoblock wheels get even lower down to .002”-.006”.  These values are as near to a perfect circle as is truly achievable in any production process.

CERAMIC COAT

FINISH INNOVATION

Ceramic finishes got their start in the firearm industry. Known for being extremely durable, they require much less material to achieve a powder coat level of protection.  The key advantages to a ceramic finish over that of a powder finish is the unique look, the durability and the weight. Roughly 33% of material needed to coat a wheel would be required in a ceramic coating vs powder. Ceramic is also extremely resistant to corrosion and heat. So a ceramic finish not only looks fantastic and stays that way, but it offers the ability to actually save weight compared to the typical wheel.
